Tips to Shield Yourself from Online Property Scams

  • Avoid paying money before seeing the property: Never, under any circumstances, make advance payments without personally visiting the property. If the advertiser requests money before showing you the property, be cautious.

  • Be wary of offers that seem too good to be true: If the price of a property appears too good to be true or the photos look too perfect, it's important to maintain a dose of skepticism. Investigate and verify the authenticity of the offer.

  • Speak with the advertiser over the phone: Always try to communicate with the advertiser via phone before finalizing any deals. While it's understandable that some advertisers may prefer email contact, it's unusual for them to refuse to provide a phone number for more direct communication, especially after initial contact via email.

  • Be cautious with online payments: Exercise caution when making online payments to the advertiser. Idealista does not provide a platform for money transfers, so you should avoid making transfers using other real estate rental websites.

  • Verify the identity of the advertiser: Ensure that the advertiser is the legitimate owner of the property or someone authorized to sell or rent it. Illegal subletting can lead to legal issues.

  • Do not share your login credentials: Never share your Idealista account login information with anyone unless you are performing a specific action related to your ads in your private area.

  • Secure the connection: When you receive emails that appear to be from Idealista and request you to log in, verify that the page where you enter your login details begins with "HTTPS" and has a padlock icon in the address to ensure a secure connection.

By following these tips, you can reduce the risk of falling victim to fraud when searching for properties online. Stay vigilant and trust your instincts if something seems suspicious.
